Migrating Tanh and Dismantling Drupal

adie — Fri, 09/18/2009 - 09:31

A strange post… considering the one it follows, but I’ve decided to re-purpose “tanh.net” and migrate it’s content to “adie.me“:

  • Months ago I purchased the domain “adie.me“, mostly because I liked the idea of having the email address “m[@]adie[.]me” (Matt Adie .me  –  cheesy I know but I like it).
  • I’ve also had the urge to use “tanh.net” for something (I know not what) other than a personal blog. ..  and really… that’s what “adie.me” seems made for.

I’ve also decided to give Wordpress a try.  I love Drupal but:

  • It always leads me down a path of complexity, and due to a heavy use of modules I always seem to have a difficult time upgrading.
  • It’s incredibly versatile, and I highly recommend it as a CMS, but generally speaking  it’s overkill for a blog.
  • It seems to be resource heavy on my shared hosting service’s mysql server

So I’ve migrated my content,  and all the posts from “tanh.net” can be found at “adie.me” under the category “From Tanh” or within the archives.

I’m still not sure what I’m going to do with “tanh.net“,  but hopefully I can come up with something interesting…

Upgrading Tanh

adie — Tue, 01/27/2009 - 16:12

You may have noticed that the photo and video sections of this site have disappeared... This is because I've had some compatibility issues upgrading from an early version of Drupal 5 to Drupal 6.9. It may take me a little while to get around to it, but I do plan to restore most of the missing content. I will also be adding a fair bit of new content, and the order of things may change to reflect it.

I must say that I’m happy to be back, and outside of my upgrade issues Drupal 6 is a beautiful thing.

You I never realized the number of sites that have been using drupal: The Onion, Warner Brothers, HarvardScience, SonyBMG's BS Weekly, Amnesty International, Popular Science, and Forbes Office Pranks.

The Christmas Buy

adie — Thu, 12/06/2007 - 10:02

Since it's time to make the sacrificial purchases required by Christmas, it's also tome to lessen the pain by supporting local artisans:

Salon des métiers d’art du Québecruns from from the 7th to the 22nd... it's huge, and you should be able to find something for just about everyone.

souk @ sat runs from the 14th to the 16th... it's young and hip and fun just to go.

Up and Running

adie — Mon, 08/20/2007 - 11:11

It's late in the season, but I'm finally back into my training routine... and while I have enjoyed my summer of slack, it's time to salvage a little of the season and gear up for the Toronto Marathon.

I'd forgotten how pleasant it is to be tired and sore all the time...

Sound Alliance Benefit Tonight

adie — Fri, 05/18/2007 - 09:21

I'll be at this benefit from shortly after 6:00pm until the end if anyone wants to join me. The project is very cool, and I'll post a YouTube video of it shortly.

Hi Folks,

We're throwing a fundraiser/going away party for the Sound Alliance Project on Friday May 18th @ Blizzarts!

The Sound Alliance is a 'mobile recording studio' that travels to remote regions of the world assisting artists in the recording and distribution of their music and ensures that artists retain all copyrights to their work. The team has been working really hard for the past two years to put this together, and they're leaving for Belize, Mali and the Soloman Islands in a few weeks.

We'd love for you to come out and have some drinks with us to show your support and check out what they're doing. Hope to see you there!

Ad Truck Begone

adie — Wed, 04/25/2007 - 12:53

Yet another online petition... this one about getting rid of those horrible
advertising trucks:

I really do wish those things (the trucks not the petitions) would go away.

2007-04-01 Training (good)

adie — Sun, 04/01/2007 - 18:01

Ok no more messing around. Training went back on track today. The next 2 months will be run focused, with swimming coming second, and cycling third. I'm still going to be distracted, but I'll figure out a way to manage it all.

My run was OK, although my recovery seems to be a little slower than I would have thought for a wee 21k, but then again I have been slacking. I've got to work in getting my speed up over the next 3 weeks, and then even more so after my 21k race on April 22.

Total Time: 1:54
2:00 pm - Random Street Run
- run: 21k 1:54 street run
