Shout out to Brave New Waves
adie — Wed, 03/21/2007 - 15:27
Scott at Midnight Poutine believes that Brave New Waves should not be allowed to pass quietly away. I for one agree, and think we should fill the blogosphere with it's passing. So if your a blogger blog, and if your a reader then comment at any of the many.
Blogs mentioning BNW:
- There's the week in blogs at Midnight Poutine
- Scott is collecting BNW stories at: Urban Camouflage.
- Justin at Metroblogging Montreal brought to my attention that this was it's last week on air.
- It's mentioned at Brad Sucks
- Streethawk says goodbye.
- MetaFilter laments its loss.
- Clever Lazy bids farwell.

2007-03-21 Training (ok)
adie — Wed, 03/21/2007 - 13:39
I'm still not up to snuff. I felt a little ill on both the run and the swim last night. Today is going to be a nothing training day due to running on 3 hours sleep, and a previous agreement to do some work. I'm afraid tomorrow is going to be sparse as well (a lunchtime run)...
Total Time: 1:00
5:30 pm - YMCA Track and Swim
- run: 0:30 track run (ok pace)
- swim: 0:30 1250 (mixed, 750free, 500s and 250)

2007-03-19 Training (yuck)
adie — Tue, 03/20/2007 - 09:23
Ok I've lost it for pretty much this entire month. I've got to get back on track, but I'm faced with many distractions at the moment. Recent events have knocked training back a priority level, but I'll find a way to manage everything...
Total Time: 0:30
12:00 pm - YMCA Swim
- swim: 0:30 1250 (mixed, 750free, 500s and 250)
End of Brave New Waves
adie — Tue, 03/20/2007 - 09:02
Apparently on January 17, 2007 CBC Radio 2 announced that Brave New Waves would be removed it's line up, and according to Justin at Metroblogging Montreal this is it's final week. This represents the end of an era for me. I grew up listening to Brave New Waves... I first heard it when I was 14 and Augusta La Paix was the host... I listened to it throughout the Brent Bambury years, and continued listening to it well into Patti Schmidt's run.
Since it aired on weeknights from midnight to 4 a.m I had many a rough and sleepy morning throughout high school. Really it had a bigger influence on my musical tastes, probably even my personality, than any other single media source. Every year I'd visit my father in Ontario (I grew up in Moncton) and be armed with lists of albums to be filled at Record Peddler in TO.
In University I'd written countless papers in all night sessions accompanied by Brave New Waves (and multiple pots of coffee). In recent years, the 9 to 5 years, I haven't had the chance to tune in too often, but I'm very sad to hear of it's passing. I almost think of it as the passing of an beloved institution... The air waves will simply not be the same :(
Laika Night Video
matthew — Mon, 03/19/2007 - 15:12
Last Tuesday I was slouching down the street, still on the sicker side of well, when a Bently pulls up to me and the person inside beckons me over. The man in the car was a very funky styley fellow who spoke little to no english, and shamefully enough my french can only really be described as sad.
Laika Night
matthew — Mon, 03/19/2007 - 13:30
I hang out at Laika a lot, in fact I stopped by for a beer on my way down to the SAT on Sat. Anyway I go up to the bar at the SAT, and voila there's a projection of the bicycle photo from behind the bar at Laika. Turns out it's Laika Night at the SAT. That's a lot of Laika. I'll be uploading a video clip of it later.
Been Over a Week
matthew — Sat, 03/17/2007 - 20:15
Wow it's been over a week since I've posted anything... now that's a shame. Today I posted a review of the Expo Manger Santé to Midnight Poutine. If you like organic food it's an event well worth checking out. However, tomorrow is the last day, so if you can find some time around the St Patty's Day parade you should head on over to the Palais des congrès.
At any rate, I got really sick last weekend, and I've spent most of the week recovering.
I haven't really been training, going out, or writing all that much. However, the past week did see me miss my chance at a possible modeling career ;) (more on that later), and it witnessed my meeting a wonderful woman (but not so sure I'll write about that... too personal).
2007-03-06 Training (good)
matthew — Wed, 03/07/2007 - 12:02
Forgot my swimsuit so it turned into a fairly long run day instead of a long swim day. BTW I love my new Polar RS800sd. I'll be reviewing it at some point in the future.

2007-02-28 to 2007-03-05 Training (very light again)
matthew — Tue, 03/06/2007 - 16:16
Life keeps interfering with training... I've got to find a way to curb it or at least accommodate it better. I'm not going to complain too much though because I've had a great week.
But skimping on training can't continue; I've got goals that I have to achieve!!!

Usine C: Constellations and Robots
matthew — Mon, 03/05/2007 - 12:20
Usine C is a great performance space. I'd never been there before last Thursday, and now I've been there twice.
I've decided to make a resolution to see more performance art. It's been a while since I've seen something as stunning as Johnny Ranger's Les Constellations Dynamiques (my review on Midnight Poutine), and it left me wanting more...
And on Saturday I got more when I went to see ROBO_COOP (my review on Midnight Poutine) as a part of Nuit Blanche. It too was impressive...
A week full of computers, robots, music, and dance... I'm not complaining.
New ultra light frame material?
matthew — Thu, 03/01/2007 - 11:13
I think there's going to have to be some new studies done adding the properties of crochet to the comparisons of carbon, aluminum, titanium, and steel as frame building materials (and techniques).
This photo came from jackrabbit.etsy.com's photoset on Flickr.
Crochet Atari
matthew — Thu, 03/01/2007 - 10:37
I found this on join-the-dots, but the photos are from jackrabbit.etsy.com on Flickr.
I wonder how hard it is to get crochet cartridges? For the more violent at heart, you should consider checking out the woven guns...
